Brickhill Cottages, South Portland
Architect: Winton Scott Architects
Owner: YC Cottage Associates, LP
Contract Value: $6.7 million |
The buildings at the site of the former Maine Youth Center had been
abandoned for more than three years and with some thought and creativity
became an excellent opportunity for redevelopment. The five existing
cottages were renovated into 43 affordable apartment units. Wright-Ryan
used the large site as a chance to implement an aggressive waste
management plan and was able to divert an average of 67%, more than
1000 tons of waste, away from landfills and to recycling facilities.
The project used the Icynene Insulation System which improves the
building envelope, reduces energy costs, has no harmful emissions,
and is known not to breed mold.
