WRIGHT-RYAN TO CONSTRUCT PHASE ONE
OF BRICKHILL IN SOUTH PORTLAND

(PORTLAND) - Wright-Ryan Construction, Inc. has been awarded the contract to construct the first phase of Brickhill, the new residential project on the site of the former Maine Youth Center. The initial phase of the project calls for 66 units to be built, out of an eventual 300 units. The project has been developed by Berman Associates of Portland; project architect is Winton Scott Architects, also of Portland.

"We're very proud to be associated with this project," noted Wright-Ryan's co-founder, John Ryan. "Brickhill is a creative mix of affordable housing, market rate housing, elderly housing, office space, a community center and a park. When we say that Wright-Ryan is 'building Maine's great spaces,' this is exactly what we're talking about."

The new construction is an adaptive re-use of the Maine Youth Center campus, with a style in keeping with traditional Maine architecture. Attractive townhouses with open floor plans and handsome exterior details include decks with open railings and extensive use of lattice, all helping to create the feeling of a comfortable New England neighborhood.

Developer Richard Berman remarked that "Our firm is delighted to be working with Wright-Ryan on this important project. For such a distinctive development, having a contractor with a fine reputation means a lot. Wright-Ryan has been responsible for building some notable structures in the area, and we think their contributions will add significantly to Brickhill's success."

Among the projects Wright-Ryan has worked on with Winton Scott Architects are Piper Mill, a recently built Maine State Housing Authority project in Damariscotta, as well as numerous luxury homes, two of which have won design distinction awards from the Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Wright-Ryan recently completed construction of Casco Terrace in downtown Portland, another combination of market-rate and affordable housing. Currently, the firm is constructing in Portland an 86-unit, 18 building affordable housing complex known as Ocean East and a 30-room single-room-occupancy structure for Avesta Housing.

Wright-Ryan is also known for Portland-area projects such as the Children's Museum of Maine, Preble Street Resource Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Portland, the Freeport High School Performing Arts Center, Topsham Public Library, Saco City Hall, multiple projects at the University of Southern Maine, and the First Parish Church of Brunswick. The firm is also highly regarded for its work in luxury residences.
