FIRST PLATINUM LEED RATED HOME IN NORTHEAST
(Freeport) -- Wright-Ryan Construction, in partnership with Richard Renner Architects, are pleased to announce that the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded Platinum Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) for Homes-Pilot Program to 10 Cranberry Ridge Road, Freeport, Maine. The house is the first in the Northeast to receive LEED-H platinum status and the fourth in the country. Platinum is the highest certification for the LEED-H rating system.
Created by the USGBC, LEED for Homes is a national rating system that promotes the design and construction of high performance "green" homes. Their definition states that; "A green home uses less energy, water, and natural resources; creates less waste; and is healthier and more comfortable for the occupants." The LEED rating system allows buildings to gain points for excellence in attaining these environmental criteria.
The four bedroom house at 10 Cranberry Ridge Road incorporates a high performance building envelope, minimal site disturbance and environmentally friendly materials. The house also features passive and active solar systems, triple glazed windows, a heat recovery ventilator, radiant floor heating, and rain screen siding. Projections show that the house will consume fifty percent less energy then a typical house of the same size.
