Wright-Ryan to Build Phase Two of Youth Center Campus
Redevelopment
(South Portland)- Wright-Ryan Construction,
Inc., of Portland, has been selected as Construction Manager for the
renovations to the five existing brick cottages on the former Youth
Center campus. The cottages will be renovated into 43 mixed-market
rate apartments. This is the second phase of the plan to build almost
300 units of housing on Brick Hill.
Currently, Wright-Ryan is completing the new
construction of the 66-unit, Brickhill Townhouses at the same
location. Both projects are being developed by Richard Berman of
Portland and were designed by Winton Scott Architects, also of
Portland.
The project will incorporate LEED (Leadership in
Energy & Environmental Design) principals, but will not attempt to
become certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. A comprehensive
Waste Management Plan has been adopted and will involve the separation
of debris from the existing buildings in order to divert waste from
landfills. Wright-Ryan strives to integrate “green” practices into
all of their projects and is committed to sustainability throughout
the organization.
Most recently, Wright-Ryan completed the 86-unit,
18 building affordable housing complex known as Ocean East and the 30
single room occupancy apartments for Avesta Housing and Preble Street
Resource Center. Wright-Ryan is currently constructing the single
room occupancy apartments for the Greater Portland YMCA in downtown
Portland.
