GOVERNOR BALDACCI RECOGNIZES WRIGHT-RYAN'S ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS

(Augusta) – Wright-Ryan Construction, Inc. entered into a formal agreement with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  They have joined a dozen other companies in the “STEP-UP” program which is the DEP’s voluntary program encouraging businesses to surpass environmental laws and regulations.  The contract calls for specific and measurable goals that are publicly reported on an annual basis.

Various goals included in Wright-Ryan’s “STEP-UP” contract include:

·          Increase recyclable materials, as measured against the total office waste stream, to 40%

·          Reduce energy consumption by 10%

·          Increase the purchase of electrical power generated from renewable energy sources to 10% of the total power consumed

·          Maximize the use of raw wood products from renewable sources and/or those manufactured from recycled materials at the Millwork facility

·          Increase the use of less toxic and non-toxic products at the Millwork facility

Governor Baldacci and key representatives from Wright-Ryan Construction were present for the signing of the contract Thursday, December 22.  The ceremony took place at the State House in Augusta.
