GOVERNOR BALDACCI RECOGNIZES WRIGHT-RYAN'S ENVIRONMENTAL
COMMITMENTS
(Augusta) – Wright-Ryan Construction, Inc. entered into a formal
agreement with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
They have joined a dozen other companies in the “STEP-UP” program
which is the DEP’s voluntary program encouraging businesses to surpass
environmental laws and regulations. The contract calls for specific
and measurable goals that are publicly reported on an annual basis.
Various goals included in Wright-Ryan’s “STEP-UP” contract include:

Divert no less than 50% of all construction debris from
landfills
·
Increase recyclable materials, as measured against the total
office waste stream, to 40%
·
Reduce energy consumption by 10%
·
Increase the purchase of electrical power generated from
renewable energy sources to 10% of the total power consumed
·
Maximize the use of raw wood products from renewable sources
and/or those manufactured from recycled materials at the Millwork
facility
·
Increase the use of less toxic and non-toxic products at the
Millwork facility
Governor Baldacci and key representatives from Wright-Ryan
Construction were present for the signing of the contract Thursday,
December 22. The ceremony took place at the State House in Augusta.
