    Sustainable

“Green” features benefit you, the client, by offering improved resale value and rent, lower monthly utility costs, better air quality, improved productivity and learning capabilities, and greater overall safety. Whether you're building a house, office building or renovating, Wright-Ryan can offer you our knowledge and hands-on experience. We strive to bring energy saving, sustainable technology to all of our jobs and look forward to discussing how to incorporate these systems and products into your project.

Taking the Lead
Wright-Ryan has a company-wide commitment to sustainability. We are actively working towards producing a new generation of buildings that promote sustainable building practices by implementing sound guidelines. Our goal is to become the industry leader in Maine in the development and implementation of sustainable and environmentally responsible practices throughout our organization. We define sustainability as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

In order to meet this goal, we have joined the Leadership Track of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection Agency's STEP-UP Program. We are the only construction company in the State of Maine to be involved in this effort.

During our first reporting year, Wright-Ryan achieved the following accomplishments:

  • Purchased 100% renewable energy from Maine sources for our office and millwork facilities
  • Diverted 672 tons of jobsite waste from landfills
  • Diverted 7,000 lbs. of office waste from landfills
  • Continuing to compile a green library of products to offer our clients
  • Developed “green” training program for employees and implemented an orientation for new employees
  • Developed an Environmental Management System to communicate policies to subcontractors and employees

In addition to participating in the State's STEP-UP Program, Wright-Ryan Construction has agreed to participate in the Governor's Carbon Challenge. Please read more about our specific goals.

Our firm is a founding member of the Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, as well as a member of the national U.S. Green Building Council.  We currently have a member of our company serving on the Maine Chapter Board of Directors, and Tom Wright and Bill Rowles previously served on the Board. Several of our employees are active on various Maine Chapter committees, including membership, communication, and program committees. Three of our staff members have received national accreditation status from the USGBC.
