BREWER, MAINE – Village Centre Apartments, completed by Wright-Ryan Construction in April 2016, is a Passive House project that exemplifies an excellent union of affordable housing and highly efficient design and building techniques.

Collaborating with CWS Architects and sustainability consultant Thornton Tomasetti, Wright-Ryan helped to plan, price, and execute a design that balanced the project budget with Village Centre’s Passive House goals.

Cordelia Pitman, Wright-Ryan’s Director of Preconstruction Services, shared, “If you don’t lay out who’s responsible for what, it doesn’t happen. It’s about completing the steps,” emphasizing the importance of the attention to detail and effective coordination with subcontractors that Wright-Ryan provides.

Wright-Ryan knows the principles that achieve Passive House standards and has a team capable of translating Passive House attributes into any project. Pitman confirms, “We [at Wright-Ryan] understand all the parts and pieces here, and we can use those same building systems, say, in a downtown market-rate rental or a condominium.”
