Elderly Housing Brings Community Garden to Downtown Kennebunk

February 22, 2012

(Kennebunk, Maine) – In downtown Kennebunk the historic Park Street School has sat vacant for years. In 2011 Wright-Ryan Construction was brought on board to partner with Avesta Housing and CWS Architects to restore the building as a center of the community once again, with elderly housing and a community garden.

To maintain key historical features of the Park Street School, Wright-Ryan will utilize their expertise in historic renovations while installing a new addition, and modern features for the residents. This project will increase high-quality affordable housing in Kennebunk for the elderly by 30 units.

The community garden will be accessible through an easement on the Park Street School property, and will have parking close by for easy access. Lots will be available for rent to Kennebunk gardeners, while approximately 25% of the garden will produce food for the local food pantries.

The completed project, in addition the community garden, will increase curb appeal, community interaction and will help property values while saving an important historic building in Kennebunk.
