February 15, 2012

Through the hard work of Wright-Ryan Construction, one of Maine’s most historic orphanages, on the National Register of Historic Places, has been given new life and provides the aging population of Maine a safe place to call home.

Lewiston Mayor Robert MacDonald recently attended the official ribbon cutting, signifying the revitalization and re-use of an architectural icon in Lewiston. Wright-Ryan utilized their extensive historic rehabilitation experience to preserve important architectural details throughout the building. Federal and state historic renovation guidelines were followed, while upgrading for modern amenities and handicapped necessities. Wright-Ryan is proud to have been a partner with Winton Scott Architects & the Lewiston Housing Authority on this important renovation and re-use project.

The project includes 32 affordable elderly apartment units, including 26 one-bedroom units and 6 two-bedroom units, with multiple handicapped accessible units. Other amenities include two community rooms, laundry, a new patio and outdoor seating area, an easily accessible parking lot, professional landscaping and a park with views of the Basilica of Saint Peter & Paul.
