Wright-Ryan has partnered with InterMed, one of Maine’s largest independent physician-owned practices, to deliver high-performing medical facilities across Portland, Yarmouth, and South Portland. Each project posed unique technical and logistical challenges, from multi-floor fit-outs to occupied renovations and fast-track healthcare delivery upgrades. Our collaborative approach and deep healthcare construction expertise have helped InterMed expand its services across Southern Maine with confidence.

Portland

Wright-Ryan completed the 65,000-square-foot interior fit-out of InterMed’s Portland facility, which included two fully equipped operating rooms. At the time of construction, the base building was still under construction by another contractor, which created significant schedule coordination challenges. Working closely with InterMed and the design team, we developed a phased construction plan across all four floors, coordinating carefully with the core and shell contractor to keep the project moving. As a result, InterMed was able to move into the new space on time and without incurring additional costs—despite the delays we inherited. This project marked the beginning of a lasting partnership with InterMed.

Yarmouth

Following our success in Portland, InterMed selected Wright-Ryan to lead the renovation and expansion of its Yarmouth medical office. This project involved upgrades to a 25,910-square-foot existing building along with a 7,300-square-foot addition. One of the key challenges was that the facility remained occupied by InterMed throughout construction. We worked diligently to minimize disruptions to both patients and staff, phasing work and maintaining clear communication to ensure a smooth experience. The result was a modern, expanded facility designed to meet both the needs of the tenant and the building owner.

South Portland

InterMed partnered again with Wright-Ryan to complete a fast-tracked gut renovation of its South Portland facility. Designed to support both urgent care and diagnostic services, the updated space required the installation of specialized medical equipment, including MRI, CT scan, and X-ray machines. In addition to these clinical areas, the renovation included new offices, conference rooms, a welcoming reception and waiting area, and a break room for staff. Our team delivered this technically demanding project on an aggressive schedule, ensuring InterMed could meet the growing demand for outpatient services in the region.
