About
Our team transformed the former Portland Press Herald headquarters, originally built in 1923, into The Press Hotel, a high-end boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. This historic renovation preserved the building’s iconic brick and stone exterior while converting the interior into 110 guest rooms, an upscale restaurant, conference spaces, a luxury fitness center, and an inviting lobby. The project features refined finishes and intricate details throughout, honoring the building’s legacy while creating a modern hospitality experience. Recognized for both design excellence and sustainability, The Press Hotel earned LEED Certification and received a Maine Preservation Honor Award for Adaptive Use.
Historic
Core elements were re-purposed, such as the former ‘City Room’ that now serves as the Inkwell Bar. Many original architectural details, including vintage exterior lettering, were retained. Artifacts like a scale used for weighing massive rolls of newsprint, and the original staircases and banisters were also restored and preserved.
