About

Wright-Ryan completed a comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Rice Public Library, originally built in 1888. The updated facility now provides full accessibility, improved energy efficiency, and modern technology throughout. New flexible spaces, including meeting and multi-purpose rooms, a teen room, a STEAM/maker space, and enhanced outdoor gardens, support a wide range of programs and community use.

Historic

A beloved landmark in Kittery, the original Rice Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The renovation restored and expanded the historic structure while thoughtfully integrating it with the new addition. For the first time, the library’s full collection is housed in one accessible location, preserving the building’s legacy while meeting contemporary needs.
