Maine Public: ‘Ultra-Efficient Portland Apartment Building Doesn’t Need Central Heating’

June 7, 2017

PORTLAND, MAINE – Maine Public’s Fred Bever shares how multifamily housing developments such as Village Centre Apartments in Brewer and the new Bayside Anchor in Portland, both built by Wright-Ryan Construction, are helping put Maine, “on the leading edge of a surge in,” Passive House development.

The following are excerpts from the story:

“It takes more than thick walls to achieve those energy savings. It also takes near-perfect sealing, so that cold air can’t get in, and a high-tech ventilation system…”

“Maine-based Wright-Ryan Construction, which was the construction manager on both the Brewer and Portland passive housing projects, just started construction on a lower-grade building at the Waynflete School.”
